Can my job make me stay over if my relief doesn’t show up on time.

I work at a gas station and recently got into to with a coworker about what time I can pull my drawer and clock out. I work graveyard shift so I go in at 10:15 PM and leave at 6:15 AM. I’m getting the short end of the stick here because my relief refuses to clock in early (can’t be mad at him for that) so it makes me stay over everyday. They also tell me if my relief doesn’t show up I’m obligated to stay over until they can get someone to come in and cover. Can they make me do this? What would be some repercussions if I left at my scheduled time?
