During the pregame meeting, kitchen managers in the NFL stadium I work in were told to make sure food waste, even baskets of chicken strips and perfectly good burgers, are thrown into a dump bucket. Only then can cashiers, dish washers, food runners, and others can pick the food from the dump bucket to eat.
I guarantee there is hundreds if not thousands of pounds of food waste because of NFL games. These employees are paid the lowest wages possible, many are unhoused or living in extreme poverty, they take public transportation to work and hope they can get out before the last bus picks up. They do not provide insurance to majority of employees because we are considered seasonal and part time.
I have been here for ten years. I am in one of the better positions in the stadium and feel lucky for the money I am able to make while here. But it makes me so angry how disgusting the treatment toward us is becoming.
I don’t know what to do because it would take moving mountains to change anything here.
