I have had the same grocery store job for about a year now. The managers have always been really friendly to me and nice, sometimes even fun to talk to, but they’ve consistently ignored my wishes about where I’d work my shift. I applied and interviewed for receiving in the back, but I was instead put on the floor and registers. Over time, it was almost always register. I vocalized how that was the opposite of what I wanted, interviewed for other positions, but kept getting skipped over with comments about how good I am on registers and with customer service.
I hate customer service and retail, that’s why I applied for the back of store crew.
Over time I dropped my hours more and more – now it was down to just 6 hours a week. But it feels like it isn’t even worth the effort financially, as I make more at odd jobs I do and get paid quicker – so it just feels like it literally isn’t worth my time.
So I quit. I called in last weekend, then this weekend sent an email saying I am resigning immediately. It felt very liberating at first – but now I feel guilty? Like I owe something to them? Like I should’ve given two weeks even though every fiber in my body never wants to set food in that store again?
I hate this feeling, but I also hated that job.
