I recently started a new retail job (yeah, I know) and I was kinda on the fence about accepting the offer but I needed a job asap and that was the only place that called me for an interview.
Anyway, the first day wasn't bad but it also wasn't what I expected. Normally, in some jobs, the supervisors/managers are with you most of your shift, explaining how the store works and all that, but not in this case. They assigned me a task and I swear I didn't speak to another employee for like 4 hours. Since I had a lot of time to think, I realized I didn't like the vibe. And I know new jobs are weird in the beginning and it takes a while to get used to but that's not what I felt.
For my other shifts, the only people that spoke a word my way were the managers. I tried to be friendly but I all I got were few annoyed smiles and cold shoulders.
There's really no sense of teamwork. And, another thing I don't like is that they just wait to tell you policies or how to do things. Why didn't you tell me that before? You could've said all that to me on my first day, not almost two weeks later.
I applied for other jobs already and got another interview lined up. I know how to work retail and how shitty it really is but I don't think I'll be able to work there at all.
