Awful policies at my brother’s job

My brother works at a petrol station and here's a list of their terrible policies: If the place is robbed, lost money gets taken from his pay He is expected to be “Permanently on call” for short notice shifts. Ie, finding out he has work in the morning at 10pm the night before Releasing assigned shifts at the start of the week so he can never plan more than a week in advance his resignation was “Refused” because he only gave one months notice, not three if the till is slightly off at the end of his shift, the amount is removed from his pay they won't provide him with a copy of his (digitally signed) contract holiday requests ignored How are some of these things legal?
