Going To HR About Our CEO

I'm not sure if this is the right sub, but I was hoping I could get some advice. I am a nurse and was hired at a private, non-profit organization at one of their medical clinics. This organization also provides healthcare services to low-income and underinsured residents and never turns anyone away due to inability to pay. I work in a at-will employment state. The new hires had a video conference the other day to meet the President/CEO along with an HR Rep. The new hires were encouraged to share their background and why they want to work for a non-profit. The new hires had a video conference the other day to meet the President/CEO along with an HR Rep. The new hires were encouraged to share their background and why they want to work for a non-profit.

We service a very large Spanish speaking population, which the CEO had touched on during the meeting.

At my clinic, I was hired on the same day with a medical assistant. When it came time for her to tell us her background, she shared with us that she is bilingual and speaks Spanish to her mother since her mother doesn't know English.

The CEO kind of chuckled a little and asked how long has her mother lived in the States to not know English?

I found this to be very inappropriate of him to say. The medical assistant, who is in her early 20s, simply continued telling us her background.

After the meeting, I asked the medical assistant privately how she felt about the situation, and she felt hurt but that she was used to this happening. We decided to write an incident report and email HR since the HR rep we needed to talk to wasn't in that day.

I spoke to the clinic manager and lead physician at our clinic and they both support us.

There is a 6 month probationary period and we are in the first month. In your opinion, are there any additional steps we need to take to address this concern and to protect us? Thank you.
