Is overtime required or voluntary?

I dont know if there is a specific law for over time. I wasn't told it was required or voluntary when I was hired here. When I was hired I was told we leave between 330 and 4. We have almost always left at 4 or later. Now, my boss puts up a sign that says “Warehouse is open until 4” I want to clock out exactly at four even if I have work left to do or not because I have a life, I have a family, other hobbies I enjoy. But, I just have a huge feeling he's gonna say something about not finishing the work before I leave. Its literally work, i can do it in the morning, so I don't care, but can you get fired for this? I'm looking for a new job anyways, just wondering.
