I support a severely disabled adult man who lives with his parents. I work through an organization that connects people to supporters like me. The pay is abysmal and I live in an expensive city where rent (like everywhere) has increased exponentially over the last couple of years. I've been working at this job for two years now and it's downright terrible. I've wanted to quit for about a year but had a lease to fulfill.
My old landlords just sold my place to a huge property management company and the rent was about to spike. I decided it was time to abandon ship and go somewhere cheaper, plus find a job that paid slightly better. I gave my two weeks' notice and my boss was surprisingly understanding. The parents of the guy I work with, though, were HORRIBLE. They haven't spoken to me IRL since they got the news, and I see them for multiple hours of the day. Just last night, they sent me a seething email telling me that I should have given them more notice and “how dare you” blah blah blah. I explained to them my reasoning, but they never replied. I've been nothing but reliable for the past two years. Their son is very difficult. He hit me constantly and threw glass at me. It's just been awful. It sucks little behavioral health workers are valued, and workers in general.
This job has been a challenge in general, but these next two weeks are going to be a fucking nightmare. The parents are going to do everything in their power to make this as difficult as possible. Please, wish me luck.
