I worked for my previous employer for a year. During that time I got paid a day rate for 8 hrs. However, when I worked weekends, my work day exceeded 8 hrs but I was still paid the same. I didn’t receive formal meal or rest breaks because I often worked alone.
My employer recently closed down and I went on unemployment. Now they are reopening and offered me my old position back but with a few stipulations. I would have a different work schedule that conflicts with my current availability. They are also hiring new employees and because of this- installing cameras, instilling a clock-in/clock-out system to track hours and requiring the appropriate breaks.
I’d really just like to keep my unemployment while I try to find a new job. I was not pleased about the unpaid wages and lack of appropriate breaks before the layoff but now hearing that they will changing things to accommodate the new hires feels like a slap in the face. Also, having to rearrange my work schedule to accommodate new hires pisses me off too. The only option I was given was if I wanted to open or close. Ha.
