Sorry for formatting, on mobile. I'll try keep this short as possible
In May this year a was promoted to team leader in a specialist practice.
We've been haemorrhaging staff like there's no tomorrow and they needed someone to be there to help take pressure off the rest of management.
I've taken my role very seriously, 20+ hrs overtime a fortnight, working weekends etc all to complete the role I originally had (medical secretary) along with this new role.
I always felt I was loyal to the practice, they've let me grow and supported me to move up.
Until today.
As I said, there's been a mass exodus of staff, thus putting those of us who are left in a harder position and making work/life balance more difficult (especially myself as I've always believed in a good leader leads by example.)
One of our doctors (the boss) now wants to consult on a usually quiet day, a day where our part timers dont work and we have staff at other locations. I took him our roster and explained that we literally do not have to staff to accommodate him working, leaving all of us in a difficult position, over worked with no time for even a lunch break (including me, on the front desk along, greeting 40+ patients and fielding the 150+ phone calls we get on a Friday)
His response… “figure it out, I need to be here, you'll be fine on the desk alone and the rest will just have to deal with it”
Now I understand, he's the boss, he needs to make money. But he would have NO patients to see if it wasn't for reception staff and secretaries to book appointments and book his operations.
I never had thoughts of leaving, until now. I know the practice will take a hard hit if I go, but this has got to stop. This nonchalant attitude towards staff has to stop. This greed needs to stop. It takes months to train staff and we're suffering because of this shit show.
To put things in perspective, we're about 4 full time employees short.
How did things get so bad? We went from a small business to a medium business because of the staff support, they would not be here if it wasn't for us.
Is it time to jump ship? Or ride it out knowing if things get better this will be my career and I can stay here for another 30+ years?
Tl;dr: boss is greedy af and about to lose the entirety of his staff.
