Backstory: he has been working at a fast food place for about 6 years since he was a junior in highschool and has only called in when absolutely necessary. He picks up shifts when he can, is always on time, stays later when asked, the whole nine yards. Also, illegally, they restrict his breaks. Most people get a scheduled break. Not him. He would have to demand them, even if he works 11 hours a day.
Yesterday, he was supposed to work, like, an 11-8 shift, or something, they asked him to stay later. He did. Around 9, he went to leave, his manager asked “where are you going? You're closing.” He looked at her, said “No, I'm not.”
When she continued to tell him he had to stay, he said “I'm going home, and you can try to tell me to write the sign up tomorrow.” She tried to tell him he had to stay to sign it. He did not. He left.
Today, he was asked not to come in since the managers have to “talk” about how to deal his “punishment”. As my boyfriend was telling me this, I told him, if he gets fired, he can rightfully file for unemployment for wrongful termination. Wish him the best of luck.
