I just took a new job. It’s salaried and fully remote.
I was issued a laptop and was told that I would need to log in to their Watchguard VPN so that my employer could track my activity, make sure I wasn’t “idle” for too long. I was also told I had to work from my home and any change in my IP address would be flagged.
Even as a salaried employee I was told I must be connected to the VPN for at least 40 hours. You was told if I ran out of things to do, that I needed to find something to keep me busy so that I would not be flagged as “idle” for too long.
This is unlike any experience I have had. I have worked from home before and always had freedom and flexibility. Now I feel chained to my laptop and terrified that I will be “idle” too long and get a nasty email.
Anyone else in the same boat? Any work arounds?
