It’s pretty rich the people who actually get this holiday off are usually the ones that don’t need it because they have actual holiday time but that’s okay.
A fun bullshit example: I used to work at a store that gave 1.5x wage for working federal holidays, but you had to also work the day before and after “otherwise you’d just take the extra cash and have your long weekend earlier or later” as if that isn’t the actual point. Or they’d reduce everyone’s hours by the amount you’d make extra, so sure you work 4 hours less and make the same pay, but you could’ve earned a 4 extra hours if they scheduled you like you normally are, even though the store is open it’s usual hours. Fun!
I wish we had real compensation for having lose out on long weekends because we all know the higher ups are definitely taking their long weekend
