My boss moved the goalposts, and I would be a doormat without this sub.

I was working a temporarily remote job about 40 minutes from my office for months. Never been sick, never had any issues, loved my job. A few weeks ago my boss emailed everyone on my team saying that we are going to hybrid schedule next week. And he just bought a new office for us so we all have an actual office instead of cubicles. He knows that I have a second job that I took to help me buy a house soon, and I had to take socks days at my second job to make it to the office because he gave us no notice (they’re too far apart to make it to both in one day).

Then, in the office, I noticed a few things:

-My office is the only empty office. Everyone else had monitors, fancy keyboards, etc.— my office had a desk and a chair.
-I was given a cheap old ThinkPad laptop, and the rest of the team uses Macs.

Worst of all…
Because he bought a new office in a different town, my commute is 90 minutes one way now. The longest commute of the rest of the team is 25 minutes.

When I talked to him about the drive, all he said was “in office time is needed” and then emailed everyone en masse to say that in office time is required of all employees.

So this man knows that I’m trying to buy a house, he knows I have a second job to make ends meet. But now he’s making me drive for 3 hours just to put in 7 hours of work that I could do from home.

But I have a plan. I’m going to do the bare minimum for now and quit with no notice as soon as I find another gig. You get what you give, and he gave me shit.
