Only 8 hours of my life a day

What is up with our society? Why can't someone go to work, Work a full 8 hours, then leave. WTF is wrong with that. Why do higher ups feel the need to criticize anyone who leaves before them. I've heard this is part of work cultures in other countries, but it shouldn't be here (In the US, TX here) I work in the science field with many different people from all over the world, and I've found this to be true EVERYWHERE I have worked in. I try to come early/leave early for traffic/commute (which i have had prior approval), and I get “looks” from bosses when I try to slink away looking guilty. Even though I've worked every minute while I'm there. Usually exceeding my normal duties. In the past, I got told by a colleague of mine that she wishes she could “be brave like me and leave”,…

I wish we could change this toxic workplace tradition.
