Commit or put your two weeks in

This week I approached my boss and asked for a raise, I was denied and I mention I couldn’t continue to work given my pay. I mention how I might need to find another job or a second job to make ends meet. 5 hours later I was given an ultimatum to either commit to working with said company for a set period or put my two weeks in. Is this legal? Can they force me to commit to working for a set amount of months or demand my two weeks notice? I’m worried I won’t be able to find a job and start working in the next two weeks and I definitely can’t make the commitment they are asking. What would you do?
