Should I quit or let myself be fired?

Asking for my spouse. My spouse works in a start up from 9-5:30 as a software engineer. Today he had a meeting with COO and RnD, they said his work is exellent but they will fire him if he comes in 2 more times late than 8:45. They have the rule to come in at 8:45 which he failed to do several times but he never come late than 9am. This company is very small and their management is totally horrible. They said that by coming late than 8:45, he doesn't look happy and excited enough to work for the company, that If he wants a 9-5 job in corporate America, he can have that but it's not them because they value the company more than their personal life. He also felt that they threatened him all the time and he doesn't feel comfortable enough working with them. My spouse has panic attacks two times while working there so he wants to quit after that meeting. However, the COO mentioned that he had to attend another meeting in 2 weeks instead of 30 days because they worry about him.

Should he just quit right now or let him be fired? I don't think it's eligible for unemployment but he is not really 'late' because he never shows up late than 9 am.
