So a general question I have. I've been working for a company for 10 years, last 5 of which, I've been an assistant manager. In that time, the franchise I've been working for has had 3 different owners. When this last owner bought the franchise, every employee had to “reapply” to the new franchisee. Throughout my employment as an assistant, one of the benefits I've had was one week paid vacation time a year.
When this new company took over, I was told by the district manager that the new company makes us wait a year before vacation time starts accruing because we're treated like new employees. It has been 2 years, I took a week off (1st time in 3 years) and submitted my vacation time. Got my check and of course, no vacation time is on it. Now I'm being told assistants no longer get vacation time with this new company.
Do i have any options? I was told I would be receiving them a year ago (lied to) and was never told there was a change to my benefits. I'm at the point of dropping down a position because the only benefit was a little more pay and the vacation for a lot more stress, but now I'm like “why bother” while I apply for new jobs. Do i have any recourse? Or am I just screwed?
