Hi, I’m Laurie. I currently do freelance proofreading for a company called Cosmic Strands, which is based out of two international offices, one in Delaware, the other in India. I signed a contract for this company stating I would be paid within 60 days of receiving an invoice for my work; however, I have been led to believe that this is not the case. Multiple people have complained on both Glassdoor and Indeed, stating that they have not received payments on time; also, I have never received replies to any emails sent to this company aside from one person who is not in charge of any finances.
I am supposed to receive $1400 from this company in the maximum time of 60 days per invoice (although I am hoping the payments would come sooner than that, since getting paid every two months wouldn’t do anything for my bills) and am very concerned that I won’t get this money. Currently I have around $3600 in the bank left over from savings, and am spending $1100 a month on essential bills (rent, electricity, wifi, food, gas, and health insurance). I will be out of money by November if things continue this way. I have worked for the company since August 30th. I am owed $2 per page for about 300 pages I’ve edited so far.
