Posting here because work culture sucks that I’m afraid to take a sick day.
Context:
I’ve been at my job for 2 months and have been performing very well. I had a crush injury of my finger and it’s been numb for a month. Originally I had an early morning appointment before work last week, and told my boss I’d be 30 mins late, but I missed it because I couldn’t sleep the night before, had a severely low blood sugar (diabetic) and overslept. I ended up showing up to work 20 mins late, and pretended I had went to the appointment. They didn’t mind. This was shitty and I feel guilty for lying, but I didn’t wake up for the above reasons and I didn’t want to tell them that I overslept.
The only other appointment is mid-day this upcoming week. I do really need to see this doctor because this may be a nerve issue that requires surgery. But I feel guilty for taking a sick day only 2 months in… ESPECIALLY after I showed up 20 mins late due to my appointment that I had overslept. So I’ll have to lie again and say this was an MRI or something.
I’ll have to plan whatever MRI they order on a weekend and may have to travel for it. My job only gives 5 sick days.
Is it wrong to take a sick day so soon?
