reading a story on here reminded my of my experiences at this crazy job i had that i quit a while ago. there was so many hours being worked by every single employee for free. not trying to disclose much about the job but basically it was dependent on customers coming in. about 5 times in my time working there, we were all told to clock out if there were no customers for a while and if someone walked in we would all rush to clock in and resume. i witnessed people coming in on their off days not to work clearly as they weren't in uniform, and end up working. there were two guys that worked there that were specifically targeted. sometimes after cleaning, the boss would come over and check for fingerprints. if it looked dirty, we could be asked to clean again. i saw maybe three times when those two guys were asked to clock out first then clean again. the most bizarre time was when one of the guys was asked to clock out and clean otherwise quit. so he said he quit and i heard him get yelled at for a while. i don't understand how you don't know youre incriminating yourself by explicitly saying that. and this is all independent of other problems of the business such as racism, sa and harassment, general unfairness. after quitting, i learned that people way newer than me that i trained, made more than me. i never reported any of this as i was advised not to by my coworkers and family. but i feel bad that all of these people were taken advantage of by the business.
