My department has started a thing where managers seek contributions from the staff in our department to purchase farewell gifts for employees who are leaving. Is this a normal thing at other workplaces? I’m confused about why we are being asked to put up our own money to fund a gift for people who are quitting for other (hopefully higher-paying) opportunities. Enlighten me! Or don’t and let me know why you think this is weird.
