I've been on a 0 hour contract at a pub/restaurant for about 8 months now. I started while I was financially okay and just wanted to top up my existing cash flow so I didn't care the work was sporadic.
In the last few months my “main earner” dried up a bit (its seasonal work, to be expected) I asked my manager at the pub if there are more hours going. She told me she couldn't give me more than 12 hours in a week because of “policy”. OK cool. I just got another job.
My second job pays more and I'm contracted for 30 hours a week, with more shifts available if I want them. I still kept on the pub job because I liked the work and the extra cash was nice.
I got called into the managers office at the pub last week for a “talk” about my second job. She told me taking on another role while working at the pub was unprofessional and I should have asked her permission first. She also told me she hoped I'd be available for the Christmas season to work the “special shifts” (Christmas day, boxing day, Christmas eve, new years eve, new years) for time×2 and she wanted to know if I was still available for that. I told her I would consider it, but Christmas is 3 months away.
She told me that over October February they would need staff they could count on to be there full time every week and she wanted me to be one of those people, but she needs me to quit my second job first so she can be sure sue can count on me. I told her I'd love the opportunity to work full time, and that as soon as she put that offer to me in writing I'd be happy to make sure I was available.
For 3 days after that she called me asking to cover 10hour shifts last minute outside of my availability. Every time I've told her no, I can't do a last minute 6pm-3am/close shift.
Well I was called into work yesterday and was suspended. She called at 9am today and told me I'm fired. Apparently I “broke contract” by getting another job and not telling her. There is nothing in the contract saying I can't have another job, that would be illegal. The contract says I need to make her aware if my availability changes and it didn't, I've been available for every shift she has offered in my availability window.
What a fucking joke.

Manger tells me she can't offer me more shifts because of policy but wants me to quit my second job so I can be available for full time work during the upcoming busy period. I told her to put the offer in writing and was promptly fired.
