So I just recently quit a job I'd had for almost a year because people kept quitting and they weren't replacing anybody. So we were down to four people in our kitchen crew from the original eight positions that should have been there.
Our manager used facebook for everything, to post the schedule and had a group chat where there was a constant 24/7 stream of chatter about work.
One day there was a festival in town and he called me in, I could see the restaurant was full and we were getting hella business so I jumped in since I was already out at the festival anyway.
Ever since then, he's started scheduling me and every other staff member as “on call” during fridays or saturdays and he never asked if we were ok with doing that, he just did it.
I had a lot of other issues with this place but being forced into 24/7 availability was the final straw for me, I was getting texts at one o'clock in the morning about work regularly and he would call me at 9pm just because they got busy.
We got paid for clocking in when we got there, but I was getting texts and phonecalls from my manager about three times a day during my off hours.
