Sort of a tl;Dr at the bottom.
Our hotel recently got bought out by an Indian family. We were previously locally owned and operated. There's been no communication with any of us about the takeover but the old owners were assured “we're keeping everybody on”.
And then shit really hit the fan.
I asked what roles they'd be taking over. 2 of the new owners said “we don't know”. Then they spoke in their native language… Looked at me… And laughed. So naturally I had a pretty bad feeling. And I really hate being lied to… It's a terrible way to start off a new relationship. So I walked. My gf followed me, 2 of our remaining desk clerks walked, and 3 of our housekeepers.
And then!
They tried to demote my old manager (who I absolutely love. She's been amazing for the 5 years I've been there). She's been there for 23 years… And they demoted her. So she walked. And after I found out we would'nt be screwing her over… We started making phone calls to the remaining staff. Subsequently, every single person we called…also walked.
The new owner had called me after I walked and said they weren't communicating much because they were putting a list of who to keep and who to get rid of, and I was “one of the ones we want to keep”. And my response was “get fucked, idiot”.
My loyalty didn't lie with the company….I was loyal to my coworkers because they became like family to me. I've never been surrounded by such awesome people… And the fact that every single one walked today .. I've never been more proud of my team.
This post is probably all over the place, but I'm having a couple of emotions all at once, so it's hard to keep the shit straight. There's a lot more to it, but I tried to share the quick and dirty. You can buy a building but you can't always buy the staff.
Thank you for reading..if you've got questions, Ill attempt to answer.
If things don't work out for me…at least I fucked myself. I'd rather fuck myself than give those assholes the pleasure.
Tl;Dr got new owners. Something seemed fishy. We ALL walked.
