why is there an obsession with hustle culture?

Recently I've been working 12 hour days 6 days a week. I am tired of it and do not like it at all. Recently someone told me I'm “lucky” to be working 12s all week and fall behind on my hobbies and school work, cause fuck all that, work work work! 🙂 Today at work, a couple coworkers also were sharing the same idea, that they are getting tired of the 6 12 hour days per week. A woman felt the need to interrupt them to yell that she has 3 kids, works 2 jobs, loves 12 hour shifts, and basically bragged how she can handle it better cause she's superior. It almost seems to me these people are addicted to toiling in factories? The job I work at is miserable factory labor. It's not like I'm saving lives as a doctor, or creating cool software that I'm passionate about.…

Why are people so obsessed about working so many hours and not doing ANYTHING else with their lives?
