Tricked again

About 7 months ago, I was told by my employer that I could be promoted to a new role, if I unofficially worked in it first to see how well I perform. I was told that if I performed well enough, they would make it official and adjust my title and pay. Since then, I have taken on almost double my regular workload, with responsibilities well outside of my remit. I've received nothing but positive feedback from clients and managers. By all accounts, I've been doing as well as I possibly could be. But when the time finally came for my pay review last month, they did a complete 180.

I was told that I won't receive the promotion or raise because I had already received a raise earlier this year. This completely contradicts our agreement, which was the basis for all additional work I had been doing.

Needless to say, I felt completely defrauded and immediately started applying for other jobs. I'm about to hand in my resignation as soon as I've secured this other offer.

Now whoever they replace me with, they'll have to pay them the salary that I was asking for anyway. I'm still getting my raise from someone and they're still paying it to someone. Would have been much easier for both of us if they just gave it to me.

I know I'm an idiot for falling for it, but this is the last time I ever go above and beyond for an employer. Hustle culture is BS, and the profits are because of you, but not FOR you. I suppose I just needed to rant.
