What this sub thinks about prohibition of rent?

Mostly title, but I’m talking about extinguishing the rentist (or landlord)class. Something that really makes me nervous is that rich people buy houses and can leave them empty and sell them later for a lot more money, mostly because renting can be a business in itself. Not to mention the fact that most big cities have more empty homes than homeless people. I think that by prohibiting renting, the prices of properties would drop significantly, giving more people chances to buy homes. At the same time, rent can be good for people that don’t have a lot of money. But I guess financing can kinda solve that issue. Moreover, I think taxation of empty properties is a HUGE step towards ending the homeless crisis, helping further drops I’m properties prices and penalizing those who have them only to speculate. TL;DR: rent forbidden -> more houses for real people. True?
