Thought this story might fit in here.
Several years ago I was looking for a new job. My current one was fine, but I wanted to see if there was something better out there.
I had an interview at Company. I always make sure I'm early for important events, but ended up being a little too early. So I stopped into this little shop next door to buy a drink. When I went to pay, the card reader did that thing where it won't read your chip, tells you to swipe, then when you swipe it says to use your chip. I was getting frustrated, the cashier seemed irritated, and the guy behind me tells me to “hurry the f*ck up.” I turn around to see what jerk is talked to me like that. It was a guy in a suit, with a large birthmark on his face (important for later). Get the card to work, go sit in my car with my drink until interview time.
I go into my interview and am led into a room with three guys behind a table. One was Birthmark guy, who was introduced as “Greg.” We go about the interview, Greg oblivious to the fact he was rude to me not half an hour prior. Things are actually going well, they seemed really interested and the job sounded like a fit. Then I asked who I'd be working for.
“You'd be on Greg's team.” Hell no.
“I actually met Greg prior to this interview,” I said. Greg looked confused. “It was about an hour ago, at The Shop. You told me to 'hurry the f*ck up' at the register.” Greg started turning red, as he clearly recalled the incident. “I'm sorry, but I can't work for a manager who talks to people like that.” The others looked at Greg, who had nothing to say. I thanked them for their time and left.
One of the other guys chased me down in the lobby, and asked if I'd consider working for them if a position became available on another team. I declined.
Treat everyone with respect. You never know what random stranger may reappear in your life.
