I want to start by saying I support Ukraine. I'm glad they can still communicate despite Russian attempts to shut down their internet access to control the narrative. This is in large part thanks to SpaceX and Starlink.
However, I would feel very differently about the situation if Starlink supplied access like that to Russia instead. As a company, their interest lies in doing what's best for their business. In this case world opinion has been pretty clear on what the right side of this conflict is. But in cases where the line between what's right and wrong is blurry, a private company with such power over communication gets to choose what's best for it's wallet rather than what's best for the world. I long for a world where the interests of the majority of the population are heard and those interests are informed by logical and scientific education. It's not the world we live in, but it's the world I strive for. The kind of power Elon Musk and oligarchs like him are accumulating is certainly a step in the wrong direction. People like him are only able to amass such massive wealth through exploitation, and I don't want someone like that making decisions about who should live or die.
