Hi,
I'm in IT. My company did an internal posting for a new Position and I decided to apply for it. The job required more responsibilities and security clearance (To which I have) to do. And to work with a totally different team to which I was ok with. I assumed this position would be paying more. We went through the Interview process which was 3 interviews.
- HR basically telling me what the position entails and what do i bring to the table
- The team I would be working with. This was a technical interview and I nailed all their questions
- The manager of the team to which he came out and said he liked me and needed me like yesterday
So HR came back to me with new paperwork for the Position and told me the pay will remain the same as it's a lateral move. I said “No it's not, this requires more responsibility and security clearance to which I already have”. He basically shrugged and said that there's nothing he can do about it. I shrugged back and said I'm not interested in switching to this position anymore. Now he started paying attention to what I was saying and try to sell me the position blah blah blah. I said if you would've told me the money would be the same at the beginning I wouldn't have interviewed. And got up and went about my business.
Who was supposed to be my new manager called me right away and try to explain his budget was tight and blah blah blah to which I apologized to him and said if I would've known this was a lateral move I wouldn't have interviewed and wasted his time. He basically try to say money wasn't everything and this position would open new doors for me, and I replied I don't want a bigger workload and more responsibility without the compensation cuz like everyone else I work for money to pay bills and those have gone up but my pay has not.
Now his boss and my boss are calling me and I'm refusing to pick up the phone or answer emails. took a few vacation days and I'm honestly thinking of quitting and look for something else.
