Weed delivery driver here. Tipping culture is a tax on generous people so that assholes can get goods at a lower cost, and so asshole business owners don’t miss out on a sale. That weed doesn’t actually cost $50, it costs $55 – it’s just that one customer stiffs me while the next tips me $10. If nobody tipped, my boss would be forced to add a delivery fee or increase driver salaries (and prices) to retain workers, but then the cheap ass wouldn’t order. This is great for me, because I do less work for the same pay, but my boss loses out on a sale, so that won’t fly. When I get stiffed, my boss can say “sucks for you, I got mine.”
Bottom line is if you work a tipped job, your boss in an asshole. Also, if you’re using a service known to be exploitive and are actively refusing to do the one thing to offset that (tipping) you are also an asshole.
If you want to protest the system, great, don’t use the service. And while you’re at it, call my boss and tell him he’s an asshole, I can’t seem to get through to him.
