I tested positive for covid on the 17th of this month. Right away I called my supervisor who told me to call HR. HR tells me that I'm cleared for five days off, but after the 5th day I could return to work. I was told if I was too sick to come back on the 5th day I could continue to stay out, however it would come from my personal sick time (which I don't have a lot of since I'm pretty new) this is my only source of income, so I really can't afford to take off unless I'm covered.
They also told me when I come back at home I still need to isolate until the ten days are up. At work I can't eat near my coworkers. I have to be masked at all times. All of these things are telling me I'm still contagious after five days and should be at home.
On the 5th day I get a text from my supervisor bothering me at home asking me if I was coming back. I took an extra day because I'm still not 100%. I still feel like shit now, but I came back today. They told me I didn't need a negative test, and I still have a nasty cough. I told my supervisor and she said that was fine, just to wear a mask.
I come in today and my coworkers are all shocked I'm here. Turns out I was qualified for a full ten paid days off but my employer made it seem like it would come from my personal time if I did that.
I did what's called an “early return to work” but they made it seem that was my only option. Not one person in charge told me I was entitled to my full paid ten days. Which I feel like I needed. I still don't feel well right now.
They lied to me. I could have stayed out. I still feel contagious. They claimed they only give five days because of the “Healthcare shortage” now I'm sitting here at work sick and exhausted, frustrated and I'm not sure what to do.
