Hiring managers need to be reminded from time to time that applicants are interviewing the company as much as the company is interviewing the candidate….
My 9am job interview this morning:
I was logged into zoom for the interview five minutes early, and at 9:04, I received a message from the manager saying that he was running late but he’d be right there.
At 9:16 he came onto the zoom and said, “I’m sorry. We had something come up, sorry for being late.”
My response:
“I understand, however, if I was 15 minutes late to this interview, would you still consider me for the position?”
You could’ve heard a pin drop on the line as he just sat there, staring at me. He then responded, “well I guess it depends on what the reasoning is.”
But immediately followed that up with, “No, I guess I wouldn’t move forward with you as a candidate if you were 15 minutes late to the interview.”
My response:
“Exactly, and I’m no longer interested in working for your company. Have a nice day.”
The End.
