First time poster. I’m a graduate student, attending the same university I graduated from to get my masters. I’ve applied for this internship before, but didn’t make the final cut. This will be my last chance, as it’s a student only internship, but I was really excited to try again.
I was interviewed by three people, two of them being closer to my age, and one probably in her late 40s. So I walk in, and the two younger girls were nice to me, and the older one acknowledged that she interviewed me last year. The younger ones started trying to get to know me, asking actual interview questions while the older woman kept interrupting them (and me) to ask what they wanted for lunch. Mind you, this was a 15 minute interview block and she wouldn’t stop showing the other two women her phone and trying to get their order. At one point, she just left the room without explanation, came back five minutes later, and asked me to summarize what I said while she was gone. She said a couple things like “oh sorry, I’m being so rude, we’re just so busy and need to order lunch.” And “haha I’m being so unprofessional, hope you understand.” But in a jokey way, she didn’t sound remotely apologetic.
In the moment I just laughed it off but after I told a few friends I kind of started to get angry. Like if I had acted like that they would immediately write me off as a candidate but she does it and I’m supposed to just accept it? It was kind of disheartening because I practiced a lot for this interview and felt like she had either already written me off or just didn’t care to know anything about me. Like I know I’m a plebeian grad student but she could’ve at least acted like she gave a shit. Am I being too sensitive?
