A tech company asked me what the worst experience at my recent school was. I told them. Then they hired him.

I’m a recent graduate from a coding bootcamp. The final project is building an app for a real world client. We got split into teams and I thought mine was superpowered. Well… with one exception. So, we got to work the first weekend and everyone agreed on what their weekend assignment was. This guy in particular (let’s call him Eric) went completely radio silent for the whole weekend. Then on Monday we asked what he had done and he said he had decided to do something completely different. We told him not to do that again. But he did. Again and again. At the end of the day he honestly only touched three parts of the app and they’re all glitchy. The other three of us spent the last day before we had to present it rebuilding Eric’s assignments and also taking on the thing he had said he would…

So fast forward a few weeks and I’m in a final interview with this company. They ask me what the biggest problem in the client project was and I tell them the story of Eric (though I didn’t use his name). Then two days later I get the email they went with another candidate. Then a few hours after that I find out it was fucking Eric.

So the only silver lining I can see here is I don’t think I want to work for this company anyway. Fuck them for making a completely moronic decision. If rhey had actually taken me seriously they could have found out who I was talking about. All that information is available on GitHub. They could have scoured and seen that Eric did very little on the project and they might have questioned just why the hell that was. I also think I specifically said the 3 things that Eric had worked on, so they could have seen that too.

Fuck them.
