After seeing someone else talk about turning to sex work after a terrible job experience, I thought I’d share my story!

This was years ago, but the TLDR of the story is that taking nudes and being a cam girl saved me from a terrible job. I worked nights at a hospital in the medical records department. My job was to file records, get patient forms from the floors and file loose paperwork. I had to answer the phone and send patient information to other hospitals in emergency situations as well, but that was rare for me to do. I was mostly alone, but had 1 co worker two nights a week. Let me tell you. This coworker had it all figured out. She would come in and look busy until everyone else left and then watch netflix, because her 1 job was to watch the phones. I hated her for that at the time, but I was young and dumb. I took the night shift because I was going to…

I took the night shift because I was going to college at the time, I don’t exactly remember the year, but I believe I started at the hospital in 2012 or 2013, at the age of 19 or 20. I was already attending classes about 1 mile away and the job paid an evening differential that made the hourly wage about $16 or $17 an hour.

I lived with my boyfriend at the time and our rent, bills, car payment and insurance was all manageable for the wage I earned. I didn’t LOVE the job, but I loved working basically by myself.

Then everything changed when the fire nation —- oh. Well. I mean to say — everything changed when my boss changed my schedule.

During the summer, I told her I could work the day shift if she needed me while one of my coworkers was on maternity leave. I thought I was doing a nice thing, because I’m not a beach person and summer really just means video games and ass sticking to a chair.

She told me she’d think about it and bingo bongo, the next day I came in she told me they agreed to switch me to days.

So I came in and worked days during the summer and lost the evening differential. I was earning around $14 an hour without it. I was like “wow. That’s a huge hit to my overall paycheck!” And sitting in traffic for about 1.5 hours when normally I came in in about 30 minutes was rough.

But I wanted to be a good coworker to my team. I felt bad that the day crew was behind on work because of the one off on maternity leave.

Summer came to an end and my coworker decided to not return from leave. So my boss decided to keep me on days.

I remember trying not to cry. I told her that the evening differential was a big deal to me, and that sitting in traffic wasn’t worth $14 an hour. I told her that the reason I took the job was because I was in college and if I worked days, I wouldn’t be able to go.

Her response was “we ALL sit in traffic”

I should have quit right then.

This was around the time when I started shooting nudies. There wasn’t a Patreon or an onlyfans at the time, but there was a website that I could sell photo sets to for $300 a set. So i’d do that once a month. Looking back on it, it was a tiny amount of money for the work that I put in, but I was so broke at the time, and my photographer friend wanted to see me thrive.

When patreon came around, I started moving my content that was rejected from the website there. I am a ecchi cosplayer, for those who don’t know what that is, I dress as characters, usually anime or video game for me and do nude photo sets or solo porn kind of stuff.

I ended up giving my two weeks when I realized if I went full time into my cosplay stuff, I could survive on it.

I don’t make as much as a lot of people in my trade, but i’m not really money motivated, I just want enough to pay my bills and save a little extra for the future.

There were a lot of other reasons the job was shitty, I was constantly micromanaged and my coworkers would tell me to stop working so hard because I made them look bad, but if I stopped or slowed down, my manager would yell at me.

I had to bring her to HR twice, once for denying my vacation for no reason and the other for writing me up for something someone else did. She would accuse me of never being on time, even though I was 10 minutes early every day. Without a pay increase, made me solo-responsible for electronic filing because I was 20 and my coworkers were mostly older and not good with tech.
