Hi all, just wanted to share as I'm not sure if this is a common practice or common knowledge.
Basically I'm trying to switch departments at my company so I'm considered an 'internal candidate'. I've basically been personally recommended to this position and was told they prefer to hire internally for it. However, per company policy, they're required to interview at least one external candidate- I assume to make sure they're hiring well or something? I'm not clear on the logic.
Anyway, out of 10 candidates, 2 will be interviewed. Myself and one external. So either the external will absolutely be a kickass hire (in which case, good for them, there's other opportunities for me to poke around for). Or they're only interviewing them as a policy formality in which case they're wasting everyone's time for some vague logic that I can't understand.
It's frustrating to realize that even if you land an interview, you may actually not have a chance at all because your interview may just be a formality so someone else can have the job.
