Antiwork

I’m getting laid off on Monday all because the new CEO wanted to stay in NY.

I work for a large Fintech where a new CEO took over in 2020. The company is based in another state but he refused to leave NY and instead got huge tax breaks to build a new corporate office across the river in NJ. All this during a pandemic. I worked remote for 3+ years before COVID and traveled a lot for work. Our department was hugely profitable and way more productive starting in 2020 because we didn't lose days to travel time. The last year there has been a huge push to get people to move to NJ (hell no for me). We had a huge layoff on 6/30 and I made the cut on that one. However, I logged in on Friday and was told to cancel my travel for this coming week with no reason given. Apparently we are set to lay off about 2,000 people. This…

This company has already had a huge knowledge drain and this is going to really cut deeper into that. Clients are already pissed bc their consultants and project managers keep getting laid off and replaced with people who don't know shit.

We all knew this was coming if we work remotely and I should get 12 weeks severance, so I will be fine but a lot of people aren't so lucky. All so the company can get tax breaks for a new office, micro manage everyone and of course increase executive pay. The American way!

What makes me happy is that I've been anti-work before I knew this sub existed and have milked every cent I can from this place, doing the bare minimum and slacking off as much as possible. I look forward to some paid time off while I figure out my next move.
