Need help to quit my job

I’ve been working at a family owned restaurant/franchise for 13 years (I started when I was at the ripe age of 15) I’ve been working for my current boss for 8 years I absolutely have hated my job for too long now, it is ridiculously fast paced and busy and although I am one of the best workers he has, my time is done. The environment is quite toxic, the boss is more like a dictator and has a “it’s my way or the highway” attitude. For example he will roster people on and if they’re unable to do those days it’s bad luck, when the roster changes no notice is given and you’re expected to do those shifts at any given time. If you’re taking too many sick days then you’ll just be let go! I work full time and I get paid for 38 hours when I do…

I absolutely have hated my job for too long now, it is ridiculously fast paced and busy and although I am one of the best workers he has, my time is done.

I work full time and I get paid for 38 hours when I do 42 on the roster, I don’t have the heart to say anything because he does treat me well, he has taken me to the formula 1 a few times, he has taken me to the football, always gets me gifts when it’s my birthday.
But I have to draw the line somewhere, my roster has been the same for 2 years and I have no work/life balance unless it’s my annual leave, but that’s not enough.

I’m one of his 2 managers and I feel like if I leave it’s going to leave him in the shit a little, i don’t want to be there anymore I want to step out of the fast paced hospitality job and do something more relaxing, my anxiety is slowly taking a toll i sometimes feel so heavy in my chest after a very busy day.

How can I approach my boss who I have a good relationship with and tell him I don’t want to work for him anymore, staff are hard to come by and I know for a fact if I go it’s going to rock the ship but I have had enough, if there is a hell on earth then it’s my work place. Thank you x
