A question about mandatory breaks

This may not be the right thread and I apologize if so. We are required to take a mandatory 30 minute unpaid break at work if we are scheduled to work more than 6 hours. The way things are scheduled, it’s not really possible to take a break as there isn’t always ample coverage. Usually it isn’t a problem but I had an issue with a manager yesterday that really left me feeling funny. I had worked through my break but forgotten to clock back on in the appropriate time frame (I was working through my break). I asked my manager to fix my time card, because I want paid for every possible second I am working. The only possible time for me to do this was as soon as I got to work, as there was another employee there for me to use their login. My manager scolded me for working through my break, but I wasn’t about to miss out on the money. Her suggestion to me was that I come in half an hour before my shift to take my break. Make that make sense?
