Just got told “I know you leave at 3:30 but leaving on time is embarrassing” by my superior

I started working a new job since late September. It’s a really stressful daycare job and we have several children with learning disabilities that require attention. The place I work at is very clearly understaffed and I had one member of staff look ecstatic when she found out I was coming to join them. I felt like I was needed at first and loved it. The lead of the class doesn’t seem to like me tho. She treats me like an idiot as though I’m meant to naturally know where things belong/how things are done/timings etc. She doesn’t want to inform me anything – just assumes I should know and it becomes nerve wracking to ask questions because she gives such a condescending tone back. I get paid by the day, so i work from 8-3:30. As soon as it’s 3:30, all the kids leave and I spend the last…

I get paid by the day, so i work from 8-3:30. As soon as it’s 3:30, all the kids leave and I spend the last half hour of my job cleaning up that place. Today, as soon as it was around 3:35 I head to get my bags and leave. The teacher stops me and my other coworker and says “I KNOW you leave at 3:30 but it’s embarrassing to leave as soon as it’s time to go. My class room is still messy and you should really pull your weight. I feel like I do everything”.

I was on my feet all day too. I get paid a third what you do a day. What do you mean I don’t pull my weight? I have no choice. This place is understaffed. Unless you’re paying me to stay, I couldn’t care less if it was embarrassing. It’s embarrassing you’re asking me to STAY after you know I don’t get paid for it.

After today I’m really beginning to hate this place and how stupid I’m made to feel by my coworkers.
