And you're “lucky” to be allowed that much depending on who you work for. Many don't offer any at all.
In the US if you don't have paid family leave offered by your employer, federal law only guarantees 12 weeks unpaid leave. Most Americans don't use the full 12 weeks because they can't afford it.
Especially now that they've just been handed a hospital bill plunging them further into debt. Depending on if their employer offers health insurance, it can be up to $10-20k ( https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-have-a-baby-2018-4?op=1)
On a side note, the stb mom will want to spend all the time she can recovering from giving birth to & taking care of a newborn. Which means she can't use the maternity leave before the baby is born and is working right up until the moment her water breaks. Extra doctor visits & sick time come out of her 2 weeks annual vacation time.
It's just inhumane to expect that of a person.
I don't have kids & I don't plan to. But if it was something I wanted, even if I could get past the incredible stress to my body & career, the cost barriers & unnecessary struggles would likely be insurmountable for me.
Why do they keep saying America is free when it costs so goddamn much to live here.
