I don’t see this posted a lot so I thought I’d share my opinion. I know I’m speaking from a point of privilege. I make enough money to sustain myself and not worry about bills. I won’t ever be rich. I’ve accepted that. I see posts on this subreddit and even some of my coworkers will say it. “If they want us to do more pay us more.” The thing is, I don’t want to do more. I actually want to do less. I hear stories from the old timers at my work about how little they used to do back in the day and I want that. I do believe that we are all underpaid and it’s beneficial to society if we all got paid more. Especially if you’re working 40+ hours and still can’t make it. I just don’t believe that taking on more work should be seen as a fair trade to getting paid more. We need to get paid what we’re worth, yes, but we also need more manning, less workload, and less demand from the higher ups to hurry ourselves. If a business made it more enjoyable to be at work we would live happier lives. If we live happier lives the more naturally productive and efficient we will be. I don’t want to take on more than I already am just so be more miserable but have a higher paycheck. I’d rather enjoy my life than have more money.
