Antiwork

There needs to be laws in place limiting an employers ability to require travel. Employees should have the right to opt out entirely without the fear of losing their job if it does not work for them.

I’m not sure how this is so often overlooked. Being required to travel out of town for work bullshit. My job has been fine up until about3 months ago I got put on a project which requires me to drive across the state 4.5 hours each way. I am completely stripped of my freedom to do the things that I would normally do if at home when I’m off work. I would like to go to the gym but can’t because there is not a location nearby. I do occasional handyman jobs on the side for additional income just trying to keep up with inflation and I can’t do that because I’m not home where my customers are to be able to do them. I am being sent to a location that I hate and don’t feel safe in. Also the excessive driving is destroying my truck! Since I’ve owned…

Since I’ve owned my truck I put an average of 16k miles on it per year. Since I’ve been put on this job I’ve put 10K miles on it! This thing needs to last me at least another 6 years!

I started my truck up this morning and all my service lights are now flashing. I now fear breaking down on the highway will ruin me because they have me driving from where I live in Tampa to freakin Miami every week. So if I break down anywhere south of Sarasota there is essentially no mechanic nearby if I have trouble and going even further south if I were to break down in the middle of say alligator ally just a tow truck alone could run me $2500-$3000 and that’s before repairs.

This has been the most unreasonable thing I have ever been required to do at a job and employees should definitely have the right to reject travel of this nature.
