So yeah, this fun thing happened today. I work at the museum and have several different jobs in there. Collisions in the schedule sometimes happen but we can always work it out with my different superiors. They are all great and understanding. Well, except for one.
I haven't been working for him for too long but he's already a complicated person who does what he
wants. He needed a few more employees to cover weekend shifts, so he hired two of us… and immediately fired another guy who had already been working under him for a while. As a result, just two of us can't cover all weekend shifts because there were supposed to be freaking three of us plus him. This is up to us two to deal with, of course. Not happy about it.
Anyway, a few days ago, he asked me if I could cover two special shifts. We have the special events at that time and I had already been scheduled to prepare stuff at one exhibition for a while so I refused. He said okay. Cut to today and he wrote to my superior at the exhibition that he absolutely needs me for those two shifts. My superior thought that I had agreed to this so he agreed as well. Except that I had no idea this was even happening. I had explicitly told him that I couldn't come.
He doesn't care. He wants me for his shifts. And it's difficult to argue with him because I'm going to be in the building at that time anyway so he's like “X can find an replacement for you but I need you here because nobody else can”. Well, you can and you told me before you would cover those shifts, so? Why did he seemingly understand at first that I couldn't come, and then secretly rescheduled me with my other superior? I want to be at the exhibition and I'm mad because I didn't agree at any moment with this.
Anyway, I asked one of the directors for help and they are now dealing with this, so I wonder what will happen next. I already know that when collisions happen, the most important job takes priority, but it shouldn't be done behind one's back and without their agreement. This isn't the first time I was forced to reschedule stuff because of this guy, and I know that I can't let it happen again. I might lose this particular job as a result though, given how he has already fired someone for something stupid. And I might lose my already poor mental health over this too. I almost had a breakdown at work because of how this was handled behind my back and after I told him I was busy. I was looking forward for the cool events at our exhibition and for being able to plan them. My promotion sorta depends on my activity during such events, but I can enjoy them too.
Wish me luck tomorrow. I'm going to do my best to avoid him in the building, but it might be difficult. I just can't mentally stand arguing with him in person. Nor online to that matter. But I know that he's going to be very mad once he finds out that I went higher to deal with this.
