I never thought I'd end up in a job where they care about us being so fast, even as I say that I feel stupid. There's a total of, like, 8 people in my department, 4 people packing to ship product, 1 person weighing and loading, and 3 people picking the product. I haven't been at this job long, but I've witnessed us having to stay over only by 15 minutes or so.. Now, we have an increase of orders, so now we stay after anywhere from 30 mins-1 hour. We had a meeting just yesterday to talk about numbers and how the team lead calculated certain things and “we could do it, just be faster” so the general manager allowed people to ask questions and when it got to my turn I asked the question that I know is on everyone's mind: “if we're getting increased orders, why don't we bring in 1 or 2 more hires so we're not relying on other departments to step in?” Surely that's cheaper than paying people overtime to come in earlier to help set up the department, right?
The general manager didn't have an answer other than bringing up numbers again.
