Way back at the start of this year, I got told on my annual review that, as an 8:30-5 employee, it was “unacceptable” that I was leaving on time every day. I told them that I was happy to stay late if there were specific tasks that needed to be done, but I wasn't just going to stay late for no reason.
After that, I started keeping a log of every time I left that was not right at 5, just in case they got on my case again
In May, 3-4 employees that live in the same neighborhood (including me) started car pooling together because it's a hour and a half round trip each day.
I just got told that the owner of the company has said that the carpool (he isn't even in it) “isn't working” because people are leaving on time and stuff isn't getting done. I can PROVE that at least half of the week, we don't leave on time.
Is this reasonable? We're salaried, and if someone needs to stay late for work, we're happy to.
