Is my job allowed to yell at my coworker for flatulence on the shop floor?

Yesterday my coworker (T) passed gas on the shop floor, to which a very rude coworker (S) started yelling at him and insulting him. I was about five feet from him, saying nothing and S started yelling at me, too, for what reason I still have no idea. He has a very thick accent and I am not sure what he said to me. Later S's wife, one of my bosses, comes to T and I, and starts sternly talking to us about the situation, not hearing our side at all, and is again very rude. (Frankly, I have no idea why I was roped into this situation at all, I did nothing and was just standing near him.) Later in the day HR and the branch owner come to T and I and threaten a two-day suspension for both of us for “harassment” and “deliberately and purposefully trying to…

Is this not harassment? What can T and I do to protect ourselves?
