So last night after 10 days of not speaking to me I finally ask what in the world is the issue. He text me and says that someone came to him that I had spoken about salaries. First off this happened 3 months ago and the ops manager already settled it. Second he told said person and myself it's settled don't speak of it again not quite legal but I get where he's coming from. So for whatever reason said coworker went straight to the owner….3 months later….third he claims I went looking for the info I didn't. I'm the IT guy and the ops manager left it open full screen on one of my every other night remote ins for maintenance. I even told the ops mannger 3 months ago when we talked how to set up password protection in excel and to not leave things like that open, he declinded..
So now the owner is telling me I betrayed him and he's considering letting me go. As with the ops manager I reminded him that talking about my salary, coworkers, and even YOURS is federally protected and since you just told me via text that's why you're gonna fire me that is a slam dunk illegal termination. He responded much later telling me I'm a piece of shit. The kicker this is a law office…
They've fucked around with my salary twice since I've been there and went behind my back once to try to replace for no other reason than they thought they could get it cheaper. 3rd party told them it would be much much more than what they currently pay me. I'm the one who betrayed him though. Perhaps I shouldn't have said anything about the salaries but at the time I was angry and hurt by my salary being messed with and the revelation that I was nearly replaced over nothing.
